A Freakin’ Hiatus

So I’ve been seriously MIA. Big life changes have happened. Seven weeks ago I gave birth to a little girl. I’m living in a whole new world. I came off birth control in February of last year in hopes it would help me lose weight. It didn’t. A few months later, I was surprisingly pregnant. I weighed in at 195 lbs at my eight week appointment, I was mortified. My final weight in my last week of pregnancy was 212 lbs so I kept my pregnancy weight gain at a minimum. Last week at my six week checkup I was 197 lbs ☹️ I need to lose 30 lbs just to get to something reasonable. I’d like to do some fasting but I’m breastfeeding and struggling to make milk as it is, I’m sure fasting won’t help. I went to an Ayurvedic astrology consultation when I was eight months pregnant and I was told I was a Vata-Kapha. Vata Kapha certainly makes more sense than the Vata Pitta I had been typed as before. So, two Ayurvedic consults, two times being typed as a Vata. Apparently, I’m just a rare overweight Vata.

So how to get back into shape…I want to get back into kettlebells. My workout space has become storage for all my yoga props (100 blankets, 90 blocks, 20 meditation cushions, 20 yoga wheels), so I don’t know where I’ll workout, not to mention I can’t get my daughter to sleep on her own long enough for me to get a workout in. I’m also contemplating getting a kettlebell certification. There’s an RKC training about three hours away in November, that would give me six good months to train. RKC certification is only $899 now that it’s gone down to two days instead of three days. But will I use it? It too much money if I don’t use it, but I do love kettlebells. Gotta mane a decision by the early bird deadline May 18. I’ve already got at least three yoga trainings this year so I can finish up my 500 hour certificate. I’m also considering getting my Pilates mat certification. I taught Pilates as a course at University in the fall with zero training. I thought the class was going to get canceled due to not enough registrants but I was wrong and was totally unprepared. I’m slated to teach again in the fall but again I don’t know if the class will make. I’m teaching warm Pilates this summer for another instructor on hiatus but by the time I could get my mat certification, the teacher would be back. I don’t love Pilates so would it be $450 well spent? Decisions, decisions.

The Bells are Calling…

I miss Kettlebell class. I gave them up when my husband and I combined our budget to pay off his debt, I couldn’t justify $135/month. I went to the gym instead, Body Pump, Body Attack, GRIT Cardio, Zumba, weight machines, elliptical, stair master, occasionally kettlebells at the gym on my own. But I miss my kettlebell workouts. And I’ve started to get the certification itch…Strongfirst has a certification in Atlanta the end of January, that’s five months for me to prepare. I got the itch so much I drove 65 miles last week to buy two kettlebells from a closing Crossfit gym. I bought another one online tonight, this will bring my collection to 20lb, 25lb, 30lb, 35lb, 40lb, 16kg, and 24kg. I don’t want to make a rash decision so I’m waiting to see if I’ll put in the practice time before I commit $1200 for training. I’m selling stuff like crazy to avoid using too much of my car fund savings to pay for it. I really think this could be my path though, I’m a personal trainer but I’m not a lover of weight machines, I don’t even know how to use a lot of them. But kettlebells, now that something I could use to train clients. There are so few kettlebell instructors in my area, in fact, only one Strongfirst certified in my city. I was introduced to kettlebells by Brooke Benton, SFGII, at SCW Atlanta Mania two years ago. My main instructor has been an RKC instructor. I’ve always been drawn to Strongfirst more and that’s where Pavel is and he’s the godfather of kettlebells in America. I’m now a huge fan of SFG master instructor Karen Smith. I subscribe to her website coachkarensmith

I have a whole training plan for the certification, there’s about a thirty percent failure rate at certification, which is three days. The training program is five days a week, which is a challenge but it would be no different than doing a Beachbody program. Speaking of Beachbody, I bought Cize last month. I returned Cize last month. I got no time to dance, I’m gotta swing some bells!

Back from the Dead

It’s been awhile…

Actually it’s been forever. I was pretty non-existent in 2014. I can complain about being too busy but in reality I was too embarassed to post. After reaching my goal weight of 145 lbs in 2013, the pounds found their way back in 2014. I’m not exactly sure what the damage is, I haven’t been on a scale since I came back from SCW Atlanta Mania in July. I have a general idea of being somewhere in the neighborhood of 170 lbs seeing as I am back in all of my size 10 pants. It’s quite frustrating and devastating if I really allow myself to have a pity party. But I do not whine and cry about it constantly but other than my weight, life is pretty good. I completed my 200-hr yoga training this month and I am now an official yoga teacher…I am a stable relationship with a great guy..-I’ve paid off most of my student debt from my Nutrition Degree…I finally got my own Body Pump class…things are well, just not the damn waistline.

But those that live in the past are destined to stay there. I cannot do anything about the 20 lbs or so I have gained but it’s so hard to try and get them off. I’m on week 4 of Insanity Max 30. These workouts are CRAZY but I need to get my butt kicked. I’m still in great shape because I still teach a million classes and I’ve been into kettlebells for about 6 months. I did Sarah Lurie’s DVDs for awhile and I’ve taken live kettlebell classes at a local kettlebell gym, too. I still take hot yoga classes occasional but not as much as I used to, it’s hard getting up at 4:45 am.

My diet is, as always, my biggest enemy. I got an Ayurvedic consult in October (I was typed as a Vata-Pitta, always thought I was Kapha) and I’ve considered following the plan given to me but I just haven’t been convinced that a Vata diet is the right plan. So I continue to spin wheels. I paid $130 for the consult, I really should just follow the plan, huh? Hmmm….maybe so.
